Spring Soccer 2011: Zac

Halfway through April soccer started. It was a welcome mix up to months indoors. And it was awesome this season, because Zac is starting to get it!

At the first game Zac got 2 goals. He stayed on the ball with shorter kicks and was more brave about getting in the "cluster" of kids to get the ball. There are 6 kids on a team and they play 3 on 3. There is a bigger opportunity to have access to the ball. Also, they don't do practices at this age, unless the coach is really on top of it. They just play 40 mins games, two times a week.

Two kids on the team dropped out so there's not much rest time, which gets interesting as the game progresses. But Zac does great! I'm so proud of him.

He had another game where he scored 2 goals, and then the last game he scored 3. Their team has also been pretty good at occasionally passing it to another player who makes the goal. So Zac has some assists too.  Its pretty fun to watch!

Getting ready for our trip

For 2010, Jon's company and department worked lots of hard, long hours to hit their revenue goals. There were a couple AMAZING rewards that were promised if they did. A large bonus and a vacation on the company. With a very rough holiday and lots of unforseen problems, they were still able to make the goal.

We thought we'd be going on vacation around June, but the middle of April they announced that we were going to Costa Rica during the last week in April. We had about two and a half weeks to get ready. We started Jon's passport back in February but still we didn't have it. They couldn't guarantee it would get here in time, so we had to pay an additional expedite fee to get it in time. And we had to expedite my passport completely. Luckily, mine came in 10 days! Then there was a flight to book. Maryanne, Jon's mom came and stayed with the boys while we were gone. Then there was shopping to be done. We didn't have stuff for a tropical vacation. So pretty much the middle part of April was preschool, soccer games, cleaning and organizing the house and running to provo to get everything we'd need and make sure the boys had what they'd need while at home.  Not to mention Easter was 2 days before we were leaving.  Although it was a really stressful couple weeks for me, everything worked out and got done.

Conference Weekend in Idaho

More back posting.... April was a half slow, half busy...

Over conference weekend, we went to the funeral for Jon's, Uncle John. in Idaho Falls. It was a nice little trip. It was great to see the Munk part of our extended family. We stayed with Jason and Kari and it was a relaxing weekend. The boys got to go out and ride on the tractor. This is the only picture that we got from the weekend.

Perspective

Max's favorite spoon is this tiny spoon. I got it at Ikea, in the toy section. I like this silverware better than the plastic ones when he was littler. Now that he is bigger, its pretty much a joke to eat with this spoon. Its literally, two and half to 3 inches long.

He has been eating with this spoon mostly.

We're trying to get him to eat with this one...a cereal spoon. But when he complains telling us he wants the "tiny spoon", we show him.....

....this one. Against this serving spoon the cereal spoon looks like a tiny spoon.

It stops the resistance for now, until he figures it out.

Happy 30th Birthday, Jon!

The big 3-0! I didn't know what to do this year, I wanted to do something big, but it really wasn't doable. I also wanted to do a surprise. Jon was more probing this year, so the surprises surround his gifts didn't hold up, but I still was able to do a fun surprise.

Thursday, we went to the Jazz game.

Friday, we had a date night in Provo: Trying on running shoes for Jon at Runner's Corner.  The shoes are great and he has been able to finally run again without pain. (This week, April 12, he ran a 5k in 29 mins with no pain!) Then we had dinner at the Bombay House. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!.

Saturday, we were just going to have a family day at home...or so Jon thought.

But first of all, here is the perfect carrot cake! Isn't it beautiful!! Although I'll never stray from chocolate, each year do I enjoy this cake more than the previous year.

We had a pacho-narty for lunch-a munkafest/nordy pastime.

Then I surprised Jon and told him we were going to The Canyons Resort to stay the night and swim and just have a little getaway. (With his Canyons season pass through work, he gets a free night in winter and one in the summer at the resort. It was perfect!) We took the boys with us. After lunch we went to see the sequel to Diary of a Wimpy kid. It was pretty entertaining, but boys loved it and Max will randomly say, "Loded Diper"-not my favorite.

Then we went to Wingnuts for dinner and headed to the hotel.

There were 2 hot tubs on the roof. The ground was heated which was awesome!! This pool wasn't as hot as the other one.

The boys had fun with their diving sticks and we listened to people from around the country, talk about how Utah has the best snow on earth. After that we headed inside to have the birthday festivities.

Pardon all the pics, but I think Max and this interaction is so cute! Daddy is opening Max's gift to him.

I love how excited Max is! Soccer cones. (The original gift from Max was retro New Balance shoes, but they were en route. So we got these for Max to give so he wouldn't be left out.)

LOVE this!

Zac's present to Dad. They are reading the tag that Zac wrote by himself.

This is Zac excited anticipating look

Sorry, I occasionally need some of me on this blog...

If you know Jon, you know this card is perfect!

A bit irritated with the button inside...hahaha!

We were pretty worried about setting the smoke detector off by using candles, so I just held the lighter on til he was ready to blow out the flame.

After a bit of a rocky time getting the boys to share a bed and an early morning with cable to entertain the boys. We had an AMAZING breakfast at The Cabin, a breakfast buffet at the main lodge. I so wish we could have all gone skiing, but that was not in budget this year! Then we all rode the gondola down to the parking lot and back. It was a great time! And so fun to do something different! Happy 30th Jon, this year's gonna be great! I love you!

Random Documenting

Max doesn't get the concept of NOT drawing on the carpet, and for some reason he always does it with the dry erase marker!! Luckily, the carpet clean and bristly brush work pretty well. We no longer have markers where the boys can get them.

Max has the most uncomfortable sleeping positions in the carseat

It was snowing and very sunny all at the same time-weird

see the shadow on my arm

Jon's department at work got some Jazz tickets, so we got to go to the game last week. We were on the 13th row. It was great! This was my second game and although the game was close and went into overtime, we still lost :(

View from our seats (I just looked at the blog post from that last game we went to, and its laughable at the difference in our view!)

The last time I went to a Jazz game we were way up at the very last row!

Since the Jazz kind of suck...or really do, this year. We took our time and got to eat at the California Pizza Kitchen instead of eating game food. It was a fun night!

Early St. Patrick's Day

Well, I have a few more posts that I keep forgetting to write up. This is the first year we did something for St. Patrick's Day, and it happened to be a day early. I am the 8yr old scout leader, and we did a St. Patrick's Day party on the 16th, and Zac's preschool party was on the 16th. Since I was already doing decorating and snacks for both parties I decided we'd just go with it.

In the morning, the boys found that Lucky the Leprechaun had made some mischief around the house....

He also left chocolate gold coins

There was some other odd things too! These canning jar rings are coming from the lazy susan, where a note was left and lead up to the fridge door!

The milk was green! (The Koolaid was already for the parties.)

There was a tower in the family room

The note from Lucky was backwards! We had to put it up to the mirror to read it!

Zac (tired) showing me his gold

Max's gold

After lunch I went help with the treat for Zac's preschool party. I made these rice krispie clovers with green sprinkles.

All packaged up

I also got some mints in gold wrappers

I also served green milk, and Lucky Charms.

Then after preschool it was on to the Scout Party. The boys had a major say in the planning. We had pizza and green koolaid, ate doughnuts on a string, had a watermelon eating contest, and a silly string war. We finished off with green slushies and more doughnuts of course!
